Some landscape projects are about aesthetics. Others are about function. This project delivered both.

For this property, the goal was to improve access to the pool, enhance drainage, and completely reset the backyard lawn with a clean, durable foundation. The result was a well-planned upgrade that blends structure, usability, and long-term performance.

Project Overview

The scope of work was divided into two major areas:
a side yard walkway leading to the pool door, and a full backyard sod installation.

With a total investment of $12,000, this project focused on proper grading, clean finishes, and materials designed to last with minimal maintenance.

Side Yard Walkway to Pool Door

The side yard originally had aging walking steps and grass that no longer served the space well. We began by removing and disposing of all existing walking steps and grass along the side yard.

Next, the entire area along the left side of the fence and the full walkway was regraded and leveled to ensure proper drainage and long-term stability. Once the base was prepared, we supplied and installed new walking steps selected by the client, ensuring correct alignment and a safe, solid walking surface.

To complete the look and improve durability, we installed landscape cloth and matching river rock, filling the area with approximately 7–8 yards of river rock. As a complimentary upgrade, we also created a 1-foot-wide river rock border along the back fence, enhancing drainage control and giving the walkway a clean, finished edge.

Backyard Sod Installation

In the backyard, the focus was on creating a fresh, healthy lawn from the ground up.

We removed all existing grass and surface debris, then thoroughly tilled the soil to break up compaction and improve water absorption. The area was then leveled and regraded to ensure smooth contours and proper drainage.

Where needed, topsoil was added to improve soil quality and correct low spots. Once the base was properly prepared, we supplied and installed 2,376 square feet of fresh premium sod, laid tightly with staggered seams for a uniform, professional finish. The sod was watered thoroughly after installation, and basic maintenance instructions were provided to support proper establishment.

Built for Long-Term Performance

This project was designed with longevity in mind. Proper grading, quality materials, and thoughtful layout ensure that both the walkway and the lawn will perform well season after season with minimal issues.
